While Niug would not speak of the secret his current audience was baffled and quizzing him on other details while attempting to trick him into revealing the secret. "Its not so much of a secret as it is a truth, given an infinite number of monkeys with typewriters, I am sure one of them could poop out my secret within a year or so..." Niug answered for the last time as he turned and reacquainted himself with the direction to the nice floors of his favourite source of tasty beverages. The intention was to have a tasty beverage. The intention was not go have many tasty beverages.
Intentions vary from moment to moment. "I meant to do my homework" remembered Niug was a funny look at intentions. Niug began to think and delve into the concept of intentions. Could he rationalize the common household intention. Was there balance or meaning to these intentions. What was he going to eat. Is it breakfast, lunch or dinner. Niug sighed and looked around, as his eyes fell to the table he looked up again and had another go. Maria had just joined Niug to pry some more information to enable physical favors when Niug abruptly got up. After motioning Maria to follow he headed to the lobby where a caravan from the flight port had just unloaded.
The lobby was cramped and the front desk was very loud. Voices where changing tone and tempo at an alarming rate. The atmosphere was the same old rarely cleaned, rarely updated, rarely looked at lobby full of strange folks speaking in strange languages. Maria walked into the lobby and proceeded to knock over to small children perched on top of some luggage. The children rolled and grinned as the came upon Niugs leg. In this situation Niug would have commonly said nothing to enable the imagination of the children to run wild. With a smile that sent giggles into the children's bellies Niug asked them if they knew where the elephant is he had lost earlier that day was. With the growing laughter the people in the lobby began to turn to see what was so funny.
As the hotel manager pushed his way through and shoved a large number of fancy paper pieces at Niug things became clear to Maria. Niug was needed. After drawing the attention of all the occupants of the lobby Niug instructed them to form a line and have one form of identification handy. While a line formed in the small lobby the population of the desk crew increased by two. Maria simply had to watch. As the first skinny traveller approached the desk Niug arranged the desk staff to their computers. With one form of identification and the amazing ability to add and subtract each reservation was filled. Each room located and understood. Each guest encouraged to enjoy the attached restaurant at 8pm. Every piece of luggage was swiftly moved to its proper place and time.
While satisfaction was at an all time high Niug's knew that great skill and tact were still required.
2009-04-25Maria watched and laughed as distant travelers were whisked to their perspective rooms along with extra towels, pillows and roll away beds. The steady manager looks on as if he is taking notes with a look of displeasure as he often has. Jose (the manager) had long learned to live with the fact that Niug's approach differed from his own and that despite his distaste of Niug the booking of rooms at the hotel where at all time highs. After futile attempts to learn and understand Niug's skill Jose and the staff had just accepted his presence. On this day Jose had something bothering him, eating away at his pride the request from the board to expand the hotel with Niug's guidence bothered Jose greatly.
The last of the groups from the flightport worked toward their rooms as Niug redirected everyones attention to the beaches and lobby. Like clockwork the restless travelers wanted to get some value out of their first hours at their destination. The staff from the front desk setup maps and charts in the lobby and grabbed their pointing sticks while the bellhops and wait staff made all the guest on the beach and the lobby have at least a glass of fresh water. As the manager frowned and motioned to Niug that joining him in the office was important Maria caught up to Niug and poked him.
"Timing, such timing..." responded Niug to Maria's poke "could you give this to the manager?" as he took a new notebook from a bellhop with a smile.
"Is this part of a game or is it already written in your book?" Maria stammered in an attempt to get on top of the situation. "Don't answer that as I am now thinking I don't want to know right now. What is this?"
"This is what the manager wants to talk to me about. Jose is the manager over there behind the desk..."
"Just give this to him?"
"Yes if you will"
Maria moved toward the desk and opened the notebook which actually held a stack of official looking papers and folded up building drawings. As Maria attempted to hand the notebook to Jose she noticed his sour attitude and pulled back the book. Jose in a moment of confusion starred at Maria and then at Niug who was happly pointing at pictures as the front desk staff pointed at the map for a group of restless travelers.
"Is that for me?" Jose asks of Maria who had reopened the notebook and started reading..
"Yes.."
"Can I have it then?"
"When I am done, I have to check something.. and tapping your fingers like that will not speed this up..."
"Who are you?"
"I am here with Niug, you know that guy over there, and I think that I am in this notebook someplace.. wow... who is carl..? do hotels really make that much... Oh its for overhead... this is good stuff, I wonder who wrote this...? Do you know this Jose Janata?"
"That is me! What does it say about me?"
"Apparently you wrote all of this" Maria responded while she closed the notebook and handed it to Jose.
The lobby was becoming noisy as Niug motioned for a waiter. Niug pointed at Maria and sent the waiter away to guide Maria to the deck take a drink order from. Jose stopped the waiter waiter and handed him a key card and glance. The waiter and Maria continued to the deck while the noise and chatter consumed the lobby.
Niug softly poked Maria to wake as she had fallen asleep in her chair. Reluctantly she woke and did not know where she was and why she had just spilled a fruity smelling drink on her lap.
"Do you need to be any where Monday?" Niug asked..
"No, prof is on sabbatical..."
